Short Book Review: The Eyre Affair

The Eyre Affair
Jasper Fforde

While mourning the loss of new Harry Potter books to look forward to, I decided I needed a new series to read. Not expecting anything to fill the Harry Potter shaped whole in my heart, but I figured it’d be fun to get into another series. {Enter Jasper Fforde and Thursday Next}

The Eyre Affair is like dessert for book lovers. It takes place in an alternate universe – one where books, literature, and authors are as popular as sports are in our world. Our hero is Thursday Next, who is actually quite similar in character to Jane Eyre herself. She’s practical, brave, smart, independent, and modest.

The plot is action packed and has many fun characters – Jasper’s as well as other author’s. (I actually wrote them all down, and filled up two pages of notebook paper.) I did not want to put this book down, and am very happy that there are four more Thursday Next books already written and ready for me to enjoy.

I most definitely recommend this book, especially when you’re in the mood to read something fun. (Also, you don’t have to have read Jane Eyre before reading The Eyre Affair, but it definitely makes it more fun.)
