Sydney, day four: Taronga Zoo

Here’s what I’ve observed about Sydney so far: the sun shines ALL the time. It’s out of control.

I heard a rumor that there was bad weather before I arrived, but I’m not sure I believe it.

Today I took a ferry across the harbor to the Taronga Zoo. Here is a photo of people taking photos of the Opera House and the bridge from the ferry.

The Zoo is built into a hill, and when you get off the ferry you can take a sky ride up to the top of the zoo so that you can wind your way back down.

Here are photos I took while strolling around the zoo.

This evening I met up with two of my former colleagues / Buddies and their S.O.s at Opera Bar. Eddie and his girlfriend live in Sydney, and Justin and his wife just happen to be vacationing here right now. We had a fun evening and incredible views of sunset over the harbor. (I put a filter on this photo that nicely hides the fact that Justin and I are sunburnt. Now it looks like “Hey, we’re New Yorkers but we can totally hang in Australia, it’s cool.”)

Walking back after drinks I stopped to admire the view of the Opera House at night. And then I stopped to get a pizza.

Tomorrow I have to leave this beautiful city and hit the road to see more of Australia. I will likely have less free time and less wifi, so my posts might be less frequent. But there will be plenty of photos on Facebook, Flickr, and Intsagram, and posts here whenever I can.

I’ll leave you with this:

Guess what? Elephant butt.

  1. The Pittsburgh Zoo has a similar entrance, but it has a covered escalator (steeped one I’ve ever seen) rather than a cable car. But it is build to wind your way down to the exit. Makes for nice viewing :)

Sydney looks beautiful. Can’t wait to “visit” more of Australia :0)

  2. FYI–I read yesterday that the clearest water in the world (for diving) is in Iceland. And it said if you get thirsty you can drink the water anytime cause it’s that pure. Are you into scuba diving? I didn’t think so, but I never know about my Emmy! love you. Looking for your latest adventures, you must be busy today.

    1. I love to scuba dive and snorkle! I hope to be able to do it in Iceland. I’ll also be scuba diving here in Australia – extremely excited about diving the Great Barrier Reef!

what do you think?
