A New Beginning

Tomorrow I start at Etsy. It’s my first “first day of work” in over six years. I thought I’d be more nervous, but mainly I just feel excited. I think that’s a testament to how confident I feel that both the role and the company are the perfect fit for me. It’s also probably a result of all the change and uncertainty I’ve learned to make peace with over the past year and a half of traveling. I’ve learned to embrace change and new experiences, and so instead of feeling apprehensive or nervous, I feel thrilled. It’s an amazing feeling, and I’m so excited for day one!

As I transition back to working full time, I’ll be figuring out how to balance reading and blogging into a smaller amount of free time. I might post a little less often some weeks, but I’ll still be here. I also want to get a little more creative here as well – I have some ideas for some new features this fall that I can’t wait to get working on.

And last but not least, I’ve been on a galley reading kick lately, and I can’t wait to chat with you lovely people about all the incredible books out this fall. (Most especially the completely fantastic Did You Ever Have a Family by Bill Clegg.)

Cheers to new beginnings, friends! :)

  1. Wootzah! Hope today is going swimmingly. Can’t wait to hear all you’re doing at Etsy. Glad you’re so excited about it. Change is a hard thing, nice to see your attitude about it changing (even though mine is not – old dog, new tricks, etc..)

LOVE Family! We do need to discuss with S when she finishes.

    Have a great first week!

    1. Thank you so much Lauren! :D I’m really excited, and can’t wait to share more.

YES! DYEHAF is so beautiful and heartbreaking. And so discussable. Looking forward to chatting more with you guys!!

  2. We are all here cheering for you, even if you never come back to blog at all (but don’t do that. we’d miss you!). I’m so happy to hear about how good you feel, and I hope the job is everything you want it to be and more.

Also, watching you and others wax poetic about Did You Ever Have a Family on Twitter is giving me a serious case of FOMO. I *must* make sure to hunt this one down!

    1. Oh I will still be here! Don’t you worry about that.

YES yes yes yes. You must grab DYEHAF as soon as possible – it lives up to all the hype! (I totally get the book FOMO, I NEED to read The Beautiful Bureaucrat asap. Trying to wait patiently for my library copy to come in but it’s a hard wait.)

Thank you so much for all your kind words – so excited! :D

  3. How exciting!! I hope you have a great first day. And did you solve the summer weather/cold office/appropriate attire conundrum? Ha! Cardigans are usually my go-to best friend.

    1. I think I have solved it – and hoping there’s only a few more weeks of this hot weather!! I’m walking to and from work, so it’s really important to wear something cool enough to not roast to death while commuting. You’re right – cardigans are the best option! I can wear a tank top while walking, and then put a cardigan over it in the office to make it more work appropriate.

I tried to buy some summer work clothes – but everything is out for fall now! I think I’ll be able to make some fall dresses work, will do some more shopping this weekend. :)

what do you think?
