Sunday Night Lunch (Weekly Recap 2.1.15)

I made it back to New York on Wednesday, after the airlines decided that the world was not ending due to snow. I celebrated my return on Friday with a visit to Strand and a lovely 4 mile walk home across the Brooklyn Bridge. Without planning to, I somehow timed it perfectly so that I was walking across the bridge at magic hour – when the sunset in the west makes the sky ahead in the east a dusty pink and purple, with the last rays of sunlight reflecting off the glass buildings on the waterfront. It’s the perfect time of day to be in my favorite place in the city, and the cold weather meant that there weren’t tons of bikers or tourists with the same idea.

This week I posted a travelogue of my time in Paris last year, a quote from Diary of a Young Girl for Friday’s Words to Live By post, and a book review of the wonderful Americanah by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie.

READING
I’m reading The Wave in the Mind: Talks and Essays on the Writer, the Reader, and the Imagination by Ursula K. Le Guin. I originally checked out a copy from the library, but while reading the first essay I decided I needed to own it. It’s so good that I need to be able to write all over the pages and mark my favorite passages while I read.

WATCHING
I am finishing up my celebratory Netflix re-watch of the entire Gilmore Girls series, and have reached the painful seventh season. I disliked this season so much that I don’t think I have watched it since it aired, and I had forgotten most of what happened. It’s a bit strange to watch episodes of Gilmore Girls that I haven’t seen 10 times already (approximate number of times I’ve seen seasons 1 to 5). I’m glad to re-watch the last two seasons since I haven’t seen them in so long, but I think I’ll go quite a while before needing to see them again.

LISTENING
I’m currently listening to Is Everyone Hanging Out Without Me? And Other Concerns by Mindy Kaling. I read this when it came out in 2011 and enjoyed it a lot, and decided that I’d like to re-read it by listening to it. It’s read by Mindy herself, and it’s a wonderful audiobook.

On Spotify, I have “In April” by Johnny Flynn on repeat. It’s my favorite song of the week, I want to listen to the rest of the Song One soundtrack, but it doesn’t seem to be on Spotify yet.
